Chef Tomi Makanjuola Releases New Cookbook Vegan Nigerian Kitchen
The cookbook features 100 vegan recipes from various Nigerian tribes and regions.
Tomi Makanjuola is a Nigerian-born blogger and chef living in London who provides recipes, cooking videos, and vlogs on her blog. Last November, Makanjuola released her new cookbook Vegan Nigerian Kitchen, which is available for purchase as a paperback or as an ebook.
Vegan Nigerian Recipes
Vegan Nigerian Kitchen contains 100 recipes traditional to Nigerian cuisine. The recipes are designed to be accessible to a modern audience and easily applicable in the kitchen no matter if you’re new to Nigerian cuisine or have been cooking similar recipes for years.
Readers will learn the basics of cooking with Nigerian staples, ancient cooking techniques and tricks, and facts about regional cuisine. Furthermore, Makanjuola provides shopping advice for traditional Nigerian ingredients as well as personal stories and anecdotes that readers of her blog have come to love.
Many of the dishes included are derived from the traditional Yoruba meals that Makanjuola grew up eating in Nigeria, but the chef and blogger has also included dishes from other tribes across the country. The result is a sampling of some of the best dishes Nigeria has to offer … veganized, of course!
The Vegan Nigerian Blog
Tomi Makanjuola was born in Lagos, Nigeria, where food was an integral part of her upbringing and culture. When she went vegan in 2013, she started the Vegan Nigerian blog as a way to showcase the various culinary vegan experiments she was conducting.
Since then, the Vegan Nigerian brand has evolved, and Makanjuola now offers her cooking at various farmers markets and festivals in London, works as a private vegan chef, and offers personal vegan coaching to those looking to make the switch to a plant-based lifestyle.
Vegan Nigerian Kitchen is Makanjuola’s second book. The first, Plantain Cookbook, included more than 40 vegan recipes using plantains.

If she’s not working, she’s probably catching one of her favorite composers in concert, riding her bike to the movies, watching a gorgeous sunset at the bluff in Long Beach, or convincing her girlfriend to go out to eat at another vegan restaurant … again.
