McDonald’s Expands McPlant Test to 600 US Locations
The vegan burger will be available in the San Francisco Bay and Dallas-Fort Worth areas beginning February 14 for a limited time.
Last year, some European countries were the first to get a taste of McDonald’s new plant-based burger, the McPlant. The release was met with positive feedback, and the brand is moving forward with expansion in the US. Starting February 14, McDonald’s will be testing the McPlant at 600 US locations.
McPlant Launches in San Francisco and Dallas-Fort Worth
This isn’t the first time that the McPlant has been tested in the US. In November of last year, McDonald’s quietly tested the McPlant in eight restaurants in California, Texas, Louisiana, and Iowa. The test went well, and customers called for the McPlant to be made available in more markets.
Beginning February 14, the McPlant will be available at 600 of the brand’s 14,000 US locations, but the trial will be limited to locations in the San Francisco Bay and Dallas-Fort Worth areas. Be sure to check with the specific location before heading out to make sure they are participating in the launch.
McDonald’s Vegan Burger
McDonald’s new vegan burger was created in collaboration with leading plant-based meat company Beyond Meat. The patty itself is vegan and is made with peas, rice, and potatoes, among other ingredients. The burger will come on a sesame seed bun loaded with tomato, lettuce, pickles, onions, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and dairy-based American cheese. To order it vegan, just ask for the mayonnaise and cheese to be omitted.
*Please note that the burger is cooked on a shared grill.
Fully Vegan McPlant Launches in UK and Ireland
Meanwhile, McDonald’s announced earlier this month that the McPlant will be available at all of its stores in the UK and Ireland. Unlike the burger served here in the US, the McPlant served across the pond will be offered with vegan sauce and vegan cheese, making the burger entirely vegan.
Furthermore, the UK McPlant will be cooked in a separate cooking area with dedicated vegan utensils.
