Champion to Launch Sustainable Sweatsuits, Sneakers, and More This Earth Day
In efforts to create more responsibly made apparel, Champion is coming out with two new eco-friendly clothing lines—Natural State and Rally Pro Earth. That’s right, sustainability is going mainstream!
The Natural State collection features a slew of t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, joggers, and shorts that are made with the earth in mind. The garments pay homage to Champion’s signature reverse weave fabrics, but this time, they’re made from recycled polyester fibers. Even the logo is made out of the reused materials! On top of that, each article of clothing is colored with all-natural dyes derived from flowers, roots, and plants to showcase the fabric in its natural state—hence the name of the collection! Pricing for the Natural State lineup ranges from $35 to $75 and will be available to shop in-store and online at Champion and Urban Outfitters on Earth Day (April 22nd).
The Rally Pro Earth collection is Champion’s environmentally conscious take on their iconic Rally Pro slip-on high-top sneakers. This is the brand’s first shoe assembled with 25-45% upcycled and 50-65% recycled materials, with percentages varying by color (white, black & gold, and black & scarlet). Each pair contains an upcycled rubber outsole and is packaged in eco-friendly materials. In honor of the sneaker’s release on Earth Day, it will retail for $104.22 online and at select Champion stores.
Both collections are a part of Champion Made, an initiative that stems from the brand’s mission to encourage consumers to make their own difference and be their own champion for the planet. Since the launch of their earth-forward program, Champion has made all of their garments washable in cold water to reduce energy and water usage. They’ve also adjusted the makeup of their classic jersey t-shirts to traceable, responsibly produced cotton and their Powerblend sweats now feature about three plastic water bottles-worth of recycled polyester fibers per garment. By 2025, the brand hopes to use 100% cotton and recycled polyester in all products, achieve zero waste across operations, and reduce the weight of packaging materials by 25%. And by 2030, Champion is committed to reducing water usage by another 25%.
