Vegan Chef Bryant Terry to Appear on San Francisco Bay Area TV Show
The chef and activist will show off his plant-based cooking skills while promoting his latest work!
This month, vegan Chef Bryant Terry joins a local Bay Area television series to highlight his new book. Chef Terry will make an appearance on KQED’s Check Please! You Gotta Try This! on Thursday, October 21 to discuss his latest book, Black Food, which explores Black foodways around the US. The vegan chef will also serve up small bites for the show’s audience, showcasing some of his favorite dishes and ingredients.
James Beard and NAACP Image Award-Winning Chef
Bryant Terry is a James Beard and NAACP Image Award-winning chef, educator, and author. Chef Terry is renowned for his activism in creating a healthy, just, and sustainable food system and has been the chef-in-residence at the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) in San Francisco since 2015. As the chef-in-residence, he continues to create public programming that brings awareness to the intersection of food, farming, health, activism, art, culture, and the African Diaspora.
“Bryant Terry knows that good food should be an everyday right and not a privilege,” said Terry’s mentor Alice Waters.
The Inspired Vegan
In addition to Black Food, which is set to be published on October 19, Chef Terry has also written four other books, including Vegetable Kingdom, Afro-Vegan, The Inspired Vegan, and Vegan Soul Kitchen. Each book pays vegan homage to Southern, African-American, and Afro-Caribbean food while exploring creative plant-based recipes, such as Double Mustard Greens and Roasted Yam Soup, Cajun-Creole-Spiced Tempeh Pieces with Creamy Grits, and Sweet Cornmeal-Coconut Butter Drop Biscuits.
Chef Terry will join Check Please! producer, Cecilia Phillips, on October 21 at 7pm PST. The event will take place at 2601 Mariposa Street, San Francisco, CA 94110. Guests will also have an opportunity to order a copy of Black Food with their ticket for pickup at the event.
