Pacific Northwest Meets Southern Cuisine at Portland’s Newest Vegan Restaurant
The new plant-based eatery is housed inside the former Portland location of No Bones Beach Club, keeping the vegan tradition alive!
This week, Keaton Tucker, owner of the popular Seattle vegan food truck Cycle Dogs, opened a new plant-based eatery in Northeast Portland, South x Northwest. The new venture is also backed by Doh Driver, co-owner of Seattle’s Wayward Vegan Cafe. After the Portland location of No Bones Beach Club was closed as a result of the pandemic, Tucker and Driver saw this as the perfect opportunity to continue the plant-based tradition inside the space with South x Northwest.
Both native Southerners, Tucker and Driver are excited to bring a taste of Southern fare to Portland. The two developed a menu that will feature classic and innovative dishes. “Keaton won me over with his talent at Cycle Dogs,” Driver told VegOut. “I am thrilled to expand on that and bring jalapeño poppers, Texas chili with cornbread, and chick’n fried steak with gravy as well as classic sides like hush puppies, beer bread, and creamed corn to the region. I won’t have to miss these favorite dishes any longer.”
In addition to classic plates, the restaurant will also offer items like the Santa Fe burger (choice of patty with crispy fried onions, grilled onions, tomato jam, white cheddar, and light mustard served with spinach dip for dunking purposes), and the Santa Fe chick’n sandwich (includes the same toppings as the Santa Fe burger, but with fried chick’n and no cheese).
South x Northwest officially opened on March 11 and is currently offering delivery and takeout only, with plans to eventually be a full-service restaurant with a bar.
South x Northwest is located at 3928 N Mississippi Avenue in Portland, Oregon 97227.
