Owner and executive chef, Mimi Williams, just announced the heartbreaking news today. “As the owner and executive chef, my team and I worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to keep our restaurant operating, our staff employed, and our community fed,” shared Williams. But with the current restrictions in order, some small businesses––like Counterpart––are sadly unable to keep up with the cost of operations.
While the restaurant may be closing now, Williams hopes to reopen at a new location in Echo Park next year. “When I joined the kitchen last year, I never imagined becoming an owner and having my vision for the restaurant celebrated with such genuine love and support. We were able to create pure sustainable [dishes] that were comforting and familiar during an uncertain time, and we will come back stronger than ever to cook for you again,” expressed Williams. The Counterpart staff recently launched a GoFundMe to help chef Mimi raise funds for the reopening.
We’ll miss enjoying the innovative dishes from Counterpart––like “egg yolk” sandwiches, jackfruit ceviche, and decadent slices of tiramisu, but we look forward to their possible reopening. Until we dine again!
